Bangkok, Thailand – The Thai Exhibition Association (TEA) has unveiled its strategic roadmap for advancing Thailand’s exhibition and MICE industry in 2026–2027, with a clear focus on building a future-ready ecosystem driven by Innovation and Sustainability. Building on the strong momentum and industry confidence generated by the latest edition of TMX, TEA has confirmed its readiness to host Thailand MICE X-Change 2026 (TMX 2026) which will be held on 29–30 April 2026, at Ballroom 1 – 3, Level 1 Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), Bangkok, Thailand, reaffirming its commitment to elevating Thailand as a leading global event destination.

Mr. Loy Joon How, President of the Thai Exhibition Association (TEA) and General Manager of IMPACT Exhibition Management Co., Ltd., stated: “Now in its third annual edition, Thailand MICE X-Change (TMX) has established itself as a key exhibition and conference platform driving greater adoption of MICE among corporate organisations as an effective marketing and branding strategy.

TMX also plays an important role in elevating standards within Thailand’s rapidly growing MICE industry, particularly in the areas of innovation and sustainability.

At the same time, TMX serves as an annual face-to-face platform for industry professionals from Thailand and abroad to network, forge business partnerships, and exchange knowledge through insightful conferences and seminars that address emerging industry trends.”

Over the past two editions, TMX has welcomed more than 5,000 participants and facilitated over 360 business-matching meetings. We expect this year’s event to generate even greater business opportunities and deeper knowledge exchange between Thailand and the international MICE community.”

This year, TMX 2026 is expected to attract over 4,000 participants under the theme ‘Innovation and Sustainability: Driving Thailand’s MICE Industry Towards Excellence.’ The theme reflects our industry’s commitment to addressing key challenges and advancing innovation and sustainability objectives.

Through TMX, our industry remains firmly committed to digital transformation and sustainability-driven strategies to strengthen Thailand’s global competitiveness. TMX reinforces the fact that exhibitions and the MICE industry continue to be among the most powerful face-to-face marketing platforms for businesses.”

Dr. Duangdej Yuaikwarmdee, Director of Exhibitions Department, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), further emphasized in his role as a strategic partner: “Exhibitions are not merely booth display spaces; they are among the most powerful marketing tools in the global business arena. Especially in today’s digital era, face-to-face interactions, the ability to see and experience products firsthand, and to conduct direct business negotiations remain irreplaceable dimensions. Exhibitions therefore serve as platforms of trust, enabling tangible business outcomes.

Thailand MICE X-Change (TMX) is far more than an event; it serves as a strategic platform showcasing the strength and full potential of Thailand’s exhibition industry. TMX encourages organizations to adopt exhibitions as proactive business strategies — from strategic planning and presentation design to opportunity generation and professional deal execution.

TMX aspires to become Thailand’s premier One-Stop Service hub, integrating knowledge, expertise, and a comprehensive ecosystem of service providers to elevate Thai enterprises onto the global stage. Through this initiative, TCEB is committed to advancing the exhibition industry as a high-impact economic driver that stimulates investment, reinforces value and supply chains, and strengthens Thailand’s long-term competitive position in the international marketplace.”

Ms. Duangrat Udomsomporn, Vice President – Exhibition Organizer, N.C.C. Management & Development Co., Ltd., stated: “The exhibition industry today is no longer merely a platform for staging events; it is a vital engine of economic growth, connecting supply chains, investors, and decision-makers across industries. In an era driven by AI and Big Data, organizers must evolve into smart platforms, leveraging data insights to deliver more targeted and meaningful experiences.

What makes exhibitions truly irreplaceable and beyond digital platforms is their ability to build trust through face-to-face engagement. Live demonstrations and direct business discussions create tangible credibility, especially for technology-driven solutions. At the same time, exhibitions serve as powerful hubs for industry communities, fostering knowledge exchange, networking, and long-term partnerships that drive sustainable organizational and national economic growth.”

Ms. Navaporn Santiwattana, Deputy Director, Food Business Unit, King Rice Oil Group, stated that the company views trade exhibitions as a strategic growth platform rather than merely a marketing activity. “From our perspective, trade exhibitions are not simply marketing events; they are strategic platforms that accelerate business growth while strengthening our brand image and credibility on the international stage.

Our consistent participation enables us to expand into new markets, build global partnerships, and reinforce our position as a brand fully prepared to compete worldwide. We do not regard trade exhibitions as an expense, but as a long-term strategic investment in the future growth and sustainable advancement of our organization.”

Asia’s leading Building Construction Technology Expo (BCT Expo) returns to Bangkok with a line-up of dynamic conferences, workshops and industry networking opportunities, taking place from 3rd to 5th September at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The Southeast Asia construction market was valued at around US$538 billion in 2024, with forecasts pointing to 6% to 6.2% annual Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) through 2028. For Thailand, the construction industry is a significant driver of growth, contributing substantially to the country’s economy.

It is against this market backdrop that BCT Expo 2025 is organized to serve as Southeast Asia’ s premier “Construction & Mining Meeting Place”. This event is set to welcome over 150 exhibiting brands and 4,000 industry professionals across the entire spectrum of the building, construction and mining sector for 3 days of business exchanges, partnerships and opportunities.

To further connect the industry, BCT Expo is bringing together a robust line-up of free-to-attend conferences and workshop with over 39 keynote and panel discussion sessions, featuring over 45 speakers and industry gurus, who will gather to share and discuss the latest trends, know-hows, innovation and issues shaping the future of the Southeast Asian building and construction industry and markets.

These forum sessions will touch on a range of insightful topics in sectors such as mining, tall buildings and vertical cities, construction AI and robotics, construction safety, smart financing, green construction, smart facility management, heavy equipment and technology trends, pre-cast technology, piling, and concrete, just to name a few.

It is known that Thailand construction is one of the most dangerous sectors, but BCT Expo is committed to raising safety standards by equipping engineers and contractors with practical knowledge and certifications to build a safer future.

BCT Expo aims to uplift the construction safety standards of Thailand, through a series of certification workshops and skill development courses on fire and safety, and work environment hazard assessments. These courses, to be conducted by the Chonburi’ s Safety Officers Club will be attended by safety officers, engineers, and contractors

At the same time, the Thai Lifting Engineering, Crane and Heavy Equipment Association will provide certified practical workshops, with professional development units (PDUs) points) for participants, on safety knowledge and practices on crane and heavy construction machinery operations.

(Bangkok, March 2025) – Building Construction Technology Expo 2025 (BCT Expo 2025), Southeast Asia’s annual exhibition and conference for the building, construction and mining sector, shall return again in Bangkok, Thailand from 3rd to 5th September 2025 at Hall 8, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Organized under the theme “The Construction Meeting & Mining Place”, BCT Expo 2025 will showcase the latest in construction technology, machinery, equipment, and materials, while providing the ideal platform for industry professionals to network, collaborate, and explore innovations in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) and mining sectors.

Last year, BCT Expo 2024 recorded the participation of over 150 exhibiting companies and brands from 16 countries, with over 3,879 industry visitors from 35 countries. A key highlight of BCT Expo 2024 was its highly successful “Business-Matching Program”, that saw over 520 pre-arranged business meetings between pre-qualified hosted buyers and exhibitors. This program allowed exhibitors to pre-schedule one-to-one meetings with their targeted buyers.

Mr. Kannapak Taweeyos, Business Development Manager, Channakorn Engineering Co., Ltd., said “This year marks our 3rd year of participation in BCT Expo. The numbers and quality of attendees clearly make it a worthwhile marketing investment for us to continue to exhibit in BCT Expo.”

This year’s BCT Expo 2025 continues to bring together leading exhibitors and trade attendees from around the world, focusing on 10 key industry clusters, namely 1. Construction Vehicles, 2. Mining, Lifting, Earthmoving & Demolition, 3. Roads & Infrastructure, Component & Service Suppliers, 4. Concrete Products, 5. Building Materials, 6. Construction Services, 7. Digital & Smart Construction, 8. Smart Facility Management, and 9. Sustainable Construction & 10. Green Building Materials.

Trade attendees will have opportunities to discover cutting-edge solutions and innovations while engaging with experts on latest trends, best practices, challenges and issues. In addition, there will also be trade certification courses conducted by key trade associations for industry professionals.

The ASEAN construction industry is undergoing a digital transformative phase, driven by emerging technologies and innovations aimed at improving efficiency, sustainability and cost effectiveness. The region’s construction market size revenue is projected to reach US$538.5 billion in 2024, and expected to grow at a CAGR rate of 7.5% from 2023 to 2028, driven by a demand shift towards Smart and Sustainable infrastructure developments, with technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), AI and Robotics playing key roles in shaping the future of the industry.

In supporting these trends, BCT Expo 2025 is introducing its “Sustainable Construction Showcase Zone” aims at showcasing and discussing the latest cutting-edge green technologies and trends, ranging from Eco-Friendly Building Materials, Energy-Efficient Construction Technology, Smart IoT and AI Driven Applications to Green Mining Solutions.

Ms. Pailin Thiansuwan, Advisor to Thailand’s Ministry of Industry, said “BCT Expo’s sustainability and green transition agenda is aligned with our government priorities, aims to foster collaboration between public and private sectors to raise our national construction standards to be in line with Thailand’s industry 4.0 agenda. We expect BCT Expo 2025 to introduce new innovations to support our SMEs in the construction sector so as to enhance their competitiveness, while stimulating investments in environmentally friendly construction technologies.”

The construction industry faces a variety of challenges that can impact project delivery, cost, quality and safety. These challenges include labor shortages, cost escalation, supply chain disruptions, safety concerns, quality control, regulatory compliance, sustainability and environmental impacts, technology integration and automation, increasing project complexity, just to name a few.

Hence, BCT Expo 2025 aims to bring together the entire Southeast Asian construction industry to network, learn, share and address these issues. Over 40 insightful conference sessions, workshops, and certification courses are scheduled to be conducted by over 30 local and international industry experts and gurus over 3 days.

Attendees will get to stay ahead of the curve in an industry that is increasingly driven by digitalization, automation, and sustainability with topics such as AI and Robotics in Construction, The Future of Construction Equipment, Building Information Modelling, SMART Facility Management, Green Mining, ESG for Building, Construction and Mining, Green Construction Transitions, Construction Laws and Regulations Updates, just to name a few.

The use of AI & Robotics in construction is expected to become mainstream by 2027 to include autonomous equipment for excavation and bricklaying. In addition, the adoption of drones for surveying, monitoring and safety inspection is gaining ground, especially in areas where safety and efficiency are paramount concerns.

Addressing the above issues, BCT Expo 2025 is conducting hands-on and skill upgrading certification courses in AI & Robotics Automation in Construction, Drone Operation for Surveying and Safety Inspection, and not forgetting the highly popular Construction Safety Certification Training Course.

Ms. Peerayaphan Pongsanam, Assistant Director of IMPACT Exhibition Management Co., Ltd, the organizer said, “Building on the success of our previous editions, we are motivated to create yet another exciting platform for industry players to come together to do business, share ideas, and forge new partnerships, while advancing sustainable practices and digital transformations within the industry.”

In addition to the highly successful “Business-Matching Program” for international and regional companies seeking business connections to expand their market presence in Southeast Asia, BCT Expo 2025 will continue to host the “Construction Networking River Cruise” providing a special evening for networking and building connections between local and international players.

A senior overseas attendee from Cambodia’s SIKA Cambodia Co., Ltd., said, “BCT Expo truly stands out as a leading international trade exhibition for the building and construction industry. Through the business matching program and river cruise, we had the opportunity to expand our networks with key decision-makers, suppliers and vendors.
The Golden Trowel has been presented for 36 years to contractors who produce the world’s flattest and most level floors. They are awarded in several different categories, based on how the floor was initially struck off, how wide the floor castings are, how much shake-on hardener or steel fibers were used, and other factors that influence flatness and levelness. Golden Trowel Gold Plates are awarded to the winner in each category, while Golden Trowel Silver Plates recognize truly outstanding entries that achieved exceptional results but did not dominate the category. The thought behind the genesis of the Golden Trowel was that competition might drive up quality. That thought has been proven conclusively to be true, year after year. The best floor in the world back in 1990 wouldn’t even be considered for a Golden Trowel today. And North America no longer dominates the awards. North America was shut out of the world records in 2019, won only one of two new world records in 2020, and was shut out again in 2021. The only new World Record this year was from Vietnam. And in 2024, of the 9 Gold and Silver Trowels awarded, 7 were from Brazil, China, Vietnam, and Thailand, and only 2 were from the USA! That’s quite a change from the recent past, when the USA dominated the awards.

Why are floors so much better now? People continue to learn how to use existing concrete placing and finishing tools to better advantage and are passing on that knowledge and skill to new generations of concrete finishers. Concrete floor consultants are learning what works and what doesn’t, and are teaching the best practices. And batch plants are being held to high standards on the concrete that they deliver to the field. The tools available are better than they were, even just a few years ago. The Somero Laser Screed revolutionized the way concrete could be struck off. As laser screeds got better and better, and as people learned the best ways to use them, the flatness and levelness of floors improved significantly, even as daily output was dramatically increased. All these factors have made a big difference in the flatness and levelness of floors. But so has striving for excellence and for the recognition that comes from being the best in the world – a winner of the Golden Trowel.

Over the first 25 years of the Golden Trowel® contest, we had winning entries from North and South America, Australia, and Europe, but not one from Asia. Because we noted that floors in Asia were neither as flat nor as level as floors in the West, and because floors in the West were constantly improving, it appeared to us that Asia might never catch up to the rest of the world without some incentive. 2024 2 For this reason, the Face Company inaugurated the “Golden Trowel Asia” contest in 2015. The Golden Trowel Asia is a special award available only to contractors in Asia. There have been a total of 26 Golden Trowel Asia Awards won by 14 different contractors from China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Indonesia. The quality of floors has been improving very rapidly in Asia, at least for a small number of concrete floor contractors. This is obvious when you note that three of this year’s five Golden Trowels and half of the Silver Trowels are going to contractors in Asia!

2024 Golden Trowels

DINCO Engineering & Construction is a company in Da Nang, Vietnam that produces floors the old fashioned way: Hand-screeding the floors, but taking meticulous care to get the elevations right when they strike off the concrete. They use a Rod and Level to shoot the elevations on the floor every 300mm (every 1-ft) and then they scrape the high spots down and fill the low spots with dry shake before finishing the floor. This process is painstaking and manpower-intensive, but apparently they really know how to do it, because they produced a large (128,000 sf) and wide (72 ft wide) floor at Quang Tri, Vietnam, with a World-Record levelness of FL 113.4, blowing the socks off the previous record. Traditionally, hand-screeded floors have the worst FL Numbers of any type of floor, but not here.

Aside from that hand-screeded floor, this year’s Golden Trowels are in a relatively small number of categories dominated by the Laser Screed. It seemed as if everyone wanted to compete in one of the Laser Screed categories, so a few of the very best floors outshone many quite excellent floors. Even the third-and-fourth place floors would have been good enough to win just a year or two ago.

For the past few years, Brazil has been a center of excellence in flat floor technology. We had many entries from Brazil this year, but Gran Nobre Pisos Industriais, from São Paulo, Brazil, outshone the others by producing not one, but two winning floors in the large Laser Screed category (over 100,000 square feet) and the ultra-large Laser screed category. (over half a million square feet) In the Large Laser Screed category, they produced a 211,000 sf floor in São Paulo that measured FF 118 and FL 115.4, and it had 4 Kg/m2 Dry Shake. Any time both your FF and FL Numbers are above 115, you have a very special floor. Gran Nobre Pisos also produced a huge 600,000 sf floor, with 74 ft (very wide) pours at Itupeva, São Paulo and achieved FF 109.9 / FL 87.2. It’s hard to get the same high F-Numbers over and over again, day after day, for 49 separate pours.

Chengdu Keyixin Technology Co., Ltd., from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, won their first “Golden Trowel Asia” in 2019, then went on to win their first Golden Trowel in the worldwide contest in 2020. They got a Golden Trowel this year for using a Copperhead to produce a floor of almost 100,000 sf, with 76 ft wide bays, at Chengdu, Sichuan, China, that measured FF 94.2 / FL 100 – and this floor had 6 Kg /m2 Dry Shake and 45 Kg/m2 Steel Fibers.

The Nutcon Corporation Co., Ltd., from Nongtumlueng, Thailand, produced another Golden Trowel winner this year. It was a relatively small (84,000 sf) Laser Screed project at Chonburi, Thailand with 85 ft wide bays that came in at FF 116.4 / FL 101.8.

2024 Silver Trowels

Silver Trowels are a sort of “Distinguished Honorable Mention” category. Silver Trowels are not awarded in every category, but as you will see below, sometimes a floor that would have won a Golden Trowel, is overshadowed by an even more spectacular floor the same year. This kind of a floor deserves recognition and is awarded a Silver Trowel.

As noted above, Chengdu Keyixin Technology Co., Ltd. won a Golden Trowel this year for a Copperhead project. Chengdu Keyixin also produced another floor, over 100,000 sf and 72 ft wide, with 7 Kg /m2 Dry Shake and 45 Kg/m2 Steel Fibers at Deyang, Sichuan, China that was won a Silver Trowel in the large Laser Screed category. This floor was FF 93.8 / FL 94.5, and it would have won Gold in 2018.

VEMAC Inc., out of El Paso, produced a high quality floor in a very unusual way. The floor was 223,000 square feet, the pours were 245 ft wide, and it was produced in two pours on two days, which, incidentally, were in the desert outside El Paso and had 40-degree temperature swings. They told me that they wanted to see how far they could push the limit of technology. They did, and they got a very respectable FF 73.2 and FL 53.5.

Xi’an Beaver Concrete Floors Co., Ltd., from Shannxi, China, produced a Laser Screed floor that had an FF Number of 84.0 that is rather ordinary by Golden Trowel standards, but a truly fantastic FL of 127.0. The judges sometimes must compare one project with extraordinary FF Numbers against another project with wonderful FL Numbers. In this case, we can sum the FF + FL Numbers to obtain a sort of “overall score” for comparison. When we did this, Nutcon’s Laser Screed floor in this category just beat out Beaver for the Gold. Last year, Beaver would have won the Gold with this floor in Xi’an City, Shaanxi, China.

We have seen large floors before in the Golden Trowel competition. We have had a number that were over 1 million square feet, and some at 1.6 million square feet, but this year, Eldridge Concrete Construction, from Newton Grove NC, produced a floor at Ellabel, GA, that was just short of 2 million square feet, the largest that we have ever seen in Golden Trowel competition, and got FF 107.6 and FL 55.7. The only reason they did not win gold was because Gran Nobre Pisos’ Lyon project, also huge, had higher numbers.

A total of 153 different contractors from North and South America, Europe, Central America, Asia, and Australasia have claimed the 398 Trowels awarded in the contest’s 36-year history (1989 through 2024)

Durability, reliability and overall performance depend on the materials and manufacturing practices. Here’s what to look for.

Construction Business Owner

JERRY MOORE / ALAMY STOCK PHOTO

Concrete pumps are vital to construction projects, and their durability, reliability and overall performance depend on the quality of materials and the manufacturing practices used to create them. Importantly, these factors are also critical in delivering machines that can be operated safely on jobsites.

Concrete pumps known for outstanding performance tend to have traits in common: high-quality steel, advanced assembly practices and up-to-date components. By understanding these factors, industry professionals can make informed decisions when selecting concrete-pumping equipment for their projects.

Steel plays a crucial role in welding heavy structures like those employed to provide stability for concrete pumps. The material’s strength and structural integrity make it ideal for constructing frames and load-bearing components.

But not all steels are created equal. Different grades of steel have specific characteristics and attributes. Higher-quality steels can offer increased strength, better corrosion resistance, improved ductility and enhanced heat resistance. They typically undergo stricter quality control measures during production, ensuring consistency and adherence to desired specifications.

Higher-quality steels may also be made from purer raw materials and undergo advanced refining processes. Advanced manufacturing techniques and precise alloying elements contribute to improved performance and reliability in critical applications such as building construction.

Thailand’s construction market is valued at 1.37 billion THB or 7.6% of the country’s GDP in 2023. The market expects to grow at an annual rate of 3% to 4%, driven by public infrastructure projects. There are currently some 108,000 construction companies registered in Thailand, of which 709 companies has the resources to undertake large-scale projects.

The industry is also facing headwinds and challenges, that include rising costs, labor shortages, tight timelines, hazardous working conditions, strict health and safety protocols, and the need to hasten the adoption of technology to improve productivity while at the same time meet expected net zero emission targets.

It is against this backdrop that BCT Expo 2024 is organized to act as a bridge for the Thai and regional Southeast Asian construction industry to seek international collaborations and networking, bringing together market-place, ideas, solutions, innovations, and partnerships for its architecture, construction and engineering sectors.

BCT Expo 2024 will see a series of well-attended conferences and seminars conducted by various international and local industry partners, such as Asia Pacific Assistive Robotics Association, Southeast Asia Construction media, Federation of Thai Industries, Iron & Steel Institute of Thailand, Drone Association of Thailand, Technology Media, PCS Security and Facility Services Limited, just to name a few.

This year’s conference will touch on wide-ranging construction related topics that will include robotics and AI, smart construction equipment and technology, designs, iron and steel trends, drones in construction, BIM trends, and Smart Facility Management.

As in previous editions, one of the event’s key highlights is its business- matching program, which will see well over 300 pre-arranged business meetings between key hosted buyers and BCT Expo exhibitors. The aim is to pre-schedule meetings for exhibitors with the right buyers during the exhibition and this program has certainly benefited many BCT Expo exhibitors.

BCT Expo 2024 will take place at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre, Bangkok, Thailand from 18th to 20th September 2024. The event is a testament to its records over the years, in facilitating growth for the construction markets, not just in Thailand but also in the Southeast Asian region. The upcoming event promises to be yet another dynamic annual platform for participants to network, exchange views, update on latest trends, and forge new business deals and opportunities.

For 50 years, the World of Concrete has been the industry’s entry point for innovation.

For example, one of the concrete flooring industry’s most game-changing technology launches happened in 1982. Face Companies engineers, in cooperation with several flat-floor consultants, introduced the Face Dipstick Profiler. The measurement tool and its calculation methodology continue to be catalysts that have accelerated improvement in slab placing quality even today.

At that time, concrete floor engineers and specifiers referenced floor profile finish quality by limiting the gap under either an unleveled or a leveled 10-foot straightedge. This procedure was inaccurate as measurements were difficult to repeat to assess quality.

The floor profiler brought a consistent, repeatable test method by which placing contractors could measure improvement in their practices. “In the late 1980s, it was difficult to imagine the almost worldwide adoption of very unusual design, placement, finishing and measurement regimes,” said Brad Face, CEO of The Face Companies.

Face refers to the adoption of his company’s innovation in the 1987 publication of ASTM E1155, the Standard Test Method for Determining FF Floor Flatness and FL Floor Levelness Numbers. ACI-117 Standard Specification for Tolerances for Concrete Construction and Materials referenced the standard test method in 1990 as they defined the quality levels of slabs. Today, these documents are the concrete industry’s go-to test method for specifying floor quality.

Following the introduction of Dipstick at the World of Concrete, The Face Companies launched their Golden Trowel Awards program seven years later. The program recognizes contractors who produce the world’s flattest and most level floors. When Face first considered launching the awards program, he aimed to drive the domestic concrete flooring industry to higher-quality results.

The list of winners announced earlier this year demonstrates that the awards program has succeeded beyond anything The Face Companies could have reasonably expected. The global recognition program showcases that floor quality is improving worldwide.

The Face Companies honor contractors with Golden Trowels in several categories that influence flatness and levelness, such as how the floor was initially struck off, how wide the floor castings are, and how much shake-on hardener or steel fibers were used.

Meanwhile, Golden Trowel Silver Plates recognize outstanding entries that achieved exceptional results but did not dominate the category.

According to Jeff Rogers, Face Construction Technologies’ director of engineering, U.S. contractors no longer come close to dominating the Golden Trowels. Out of eight Golden Trowels awarded at the World of Concrete 2024, U.S. contractors received two, Asian contractors (China and Thailand combined) received four, and two were presented to Brazilian projects.

JD Supra law firm

These factors are reshaping construction arbitration. Here’s what contractors need to know.

Construction arbitration has evolved significantly over the years. As the industry continues to evolve, so too do the trends and practices within construction arbitration. This article looks at some of the emerging trends that are changing the landscape of construction arbitration and their implications for parties involved in construction disputes.

Increased Use of Technology

One notable trend in construction arbitration is the increased use of technology to streamline proceedings and enhance efficiency. From virtual hearings and electronic document management to online arbitration platforms, technology is revolutionizing the way construction disputes are resolved.

Long gone are the days of hauling bankers boxes full of daily reports, printing color copies of aerial site photos, or bringing 30 binders of paper exhibits to a final hearing. Arbitrators are becoming accustomed to electronic exhibits and being able to access and search exhibits. This makes the deliberation and award-writing phases more streamlined, particularly if the exhibits are well-labeled, and lengthy exhibits, such as contracts or specifications, are searchable.

Technology has made preliminary and final hearings easier to schedule. Virtual hearings, in particular, have become more prevalent, allowing parties and arbitrators to participate remotely, thereby reducing costs, and eliminating geographical barriers. The use of technology not only accelerates the arbitration process but also improves accessibility and transparency while lowering costs.

Emphasis on Efficiency and Cost Effectiveness

In today’s competitive construction industry, parties are increasingly focused on resolving disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner. As a result, there is a growing emphasis on efficiency in construction arbitration proceedings. Arbitrators and parties are employing various strategies to streamline the arbitration process, such as shortening deadlines, limiting discovery, using witness statements, adopting expedited procedures for smaller claims, and using case management techniques to control costs.

We are also seeing arbitration clauses with interim dispute management tools that allow the parties to have claims heard while the project continues to move forward, or provide for expedited processing of particular claims, such as payment claims, without prejudicing the parties’ rights to bringing additional claims later.

Furthermore, the use of technology, as mentioned earlier, plays a significant role in enhancing efficiency and reducing the overall cost of arbitration.
